What does golf cost a month? Four Swiss budgets, from published prices
Four months built from published prices, from an evening in a simulator to a club membership, and the two items that really move the number: the green fee and how many people share the bay.

What does golf cost a month? The question sits in every search box, and every answer starts with: it depends. True, and useless. So here are four months built from published prices, from an evening in a simulator to a club membership, plus the two items that actually move the number.
The items a month is made of
Golf has no monthly bill. It has six items, which you use or do not depending on your route. Every figure below is published, as at September 2026:
| Item | Price | Based on |
|---|---|---|
| Hour in a simulator | CHF 25 to 99, median CHF 50 | per bay, usually up to four people |
| Range balls | 20 balls CHF 3.50 | Golfpark Otelfingen, ball card CHF 10 once |
| Green fee, 18 holes | CHF 100 on weekdays, CHF 120 at the weekend | Golfpark Otelfingen |
| Green fee, 9 holes | CHF 55 on weekdays, CHF 65 at the weekend | Golfpark Otelfingen |
| Licence without a club | CHF 300 a year, ASGI around CHF 380 | Migros GolfCard from 26 |
| Private lesson | CHF 65 for 25 minutes, CHF 120 for 50 | Migros Golf Academy |
The prices come from Migros Golf and the GolfCard; the venues' hourly rates are on our price overview, in the operator's own words. Every course and every venue sets its own tariff, but the order of magnitude holds across the country.
Budget 1: simulator only, two evenings
Two evenings a month, an hour each, booked for two people. The bay is a median CHF 50, which is CHF 25 each an evening.
CHF 50 a month. No licence, no course permit, no membership, no machine in the cellar. For four people the same evening is CHF 12.50 a head, because the price belongs to the bay and not to the person. It is the cheapest way to play golf regularly in Switzerland, and it costs the same in January as in July.
Budget 2: the winter with lessons
Four hours in a bay on your own, plus one 50-minute private lesson: CHF 200 and CHF 120.
CHF 320 a month, and only from November to March. It is the most expensive month on this list and the one that returns the most, because the launch monitor measures through every lesson. Anyone who works through a winter like that arrives in April with a swing they did not have before. How those months divide up is in the winter training plan.
Budget 3: clubless with a licence, in summer
The licence through the Migros GolfCard costs CHF 300 a year, which is CHF 25 a month. Add two rounds of 18 holes on weekdays at CHF 100, CHF 90 each with the GolfCard reduction of CHF 10, plus one basket of range balls.
Around CHF 210 a month in season, and through the winter all of it falls away except the CHF 25 for the licence. Over a year that is the route 47,177 golfers in Switzerland take: 43 per cent of all licences run through the ASGI and the Migros GolfCard rather than a club. What else works without a club is in Golf without a course permit and without a membership.
Budget 4: club member
An example with published figures: Golf Club Davos lists an annual fee of CHF 1,500 for single members, plus a one-off entry fee of CHF 15,000 from age 33, or CHF 9,000 for young adults between 22 and 32 (golf-davos.ch).
CHF 125 a month for the fee, and every round on the home course is in it. Play twenty times a year and each round costs less than a green fee. The entry fee stands beside that, and it is why a club is rarely the first step: it costs as much as thirty years of the GolfCard. Many clubs therefore offer a temporary annual membership, part of which is later credited against the fee.
The four months side by side
| Route | Per month | What is in it | What is missing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Simulator only | CHF 50 | two evenings, for two | the course |
| Winter with a pro | CHF 320 | four hours, one lesson | only applies for five months |
| Clubless with a licence | CHF 210 in season | licence, two rounds, balls | no home course |
| Club member | CHF 125 plus entry fee | the fee, unlimited rounds | the one-off fee |
What is striking is the order. The club's monthly fee is lower than the clubless summer budget, and the club is still the expensive route: the entry fee sits outside the table. And the cheapest month is not the one with the least golf in it, but the one with the fewest green fees.
A whole year, spread over twelve months
Because golf costs differently in winter than in summer, one month on its own says little. Here is what a full year looks like for many clubless players:
| Item | Per year | Based on |
|---|---|---|
| Licence | CHF 300 | Migros GolfCard from 26 |
| 20 rounds | CHF 1,800 | 18 holes on weekdays, CHF 90 with the reduction |
| 10 bay hours in winter | CHF 500 | median CHF 50, booked alone |
| 5 private lessons | CHF 600 | 50 minutes each |
| Range balls | around CHF 100 | about 30 cards of 20 balls |
| Together | CHF 3,300 | around CHF 275 a month |
Two thirds of that is green fees and lessons, a tenth is the licence. Spend the same sum differently and you get a different year: ten rounds instead of twenty, plus an hour in a simulator every week, costs the same and improves more.
What budgets usually leave out
Four items appear on no price list and in every reckoning.
- Equipment. It is not monthly, but it comes: clubs, bag, shoes, gloves, balls. Spread over the years a set lasts, it is the smallest item on this list, and in the first year you do not need it at all.
- The journey. Twenty rounds at a course half an hour away is twenty hours in the car. The nearest venue is on the map, which gives the distance in kilometres.
- The clubhouse. A coffee after nine holes costs what it costs, and for many people it is part of the round.
- Tournament fees. Playing for your handicap in a tournament means an entry fee, which the organiser publishes. The alternative is a registered private round, which costs nothing extra.
What actually moves the number
Two items, and membership is neither of them.
The green fee. One round of 18 holes costs what two hours in a simulator cost for two people. Play every week in summer and that is around CHF 400 a month, whether the licence runs through a club or through the GolfCard. There are two levers: nine holes instead of eighteen, and a weekday instead of a weekend. At Otelfingen that is CHF 55 instead of CHF 120.
The number of heads in the bay. The hourly rate belongs to the room. Alone the hour is CHF 50, for four it is CHF 12.50 each. No other item in golf halves itself because somebody came along.

Three ways to pay less a month
- Book for four. The same hour, a quarter of the price each. Of the 110 indoor venues in the directory, 102 state their number of bays, 202 in all, and 42 have two or more.
- Play nine holes. Nine holes take two hours and cost a good half. For handicap purposes they count just the same.
- Go on a weekday. At Otelfingen the difference between a Tuesday and a Sunday is CHF 20 over 18 holes, and the course is emptier.

Frequently asked questions
What does golf cost a month in Switzerland?
Between CHF 50 and around CHF 400, depending on the route. Two simulator evenings for two are CHF 50 a month, a winter month with four hours and a lesson is CHF 320, a clubless summer month with a licence and two rounds is about CHF 210, and an annual club fee of CHF 1,500 is CHF 125 a month plus the one-off entry fee.
What does a green fee cost in Switzerland?
Every course publishes its own. Golfpark Otelfingen charges CHF 100 on weekdays and CHF 120 at the weekend for 18 holes, and CHF 55 and CHF 65 for nine. With the Migros GolfCard it is CHF 10 less over 18 holes and CHF 5 over nine.
Is a club membership cheaper than green fees?
Per round yes, once you play often: an annual fee of CHF 1,500 spread over twenty rounds is CHF 75 a round, which is below a green fee. What tips the calculation is the one-off entry fee, which at a club like Davos is CHF 15,000 from age 33.
What does an hour in a golf simulator cost per person?
The price belongs to the bay, not the person. The median hour is CHF 50, the cheapest CHF 25 and the dearest CHF 99. For four people that is CHF 12.50 a head for an hour, and 42 of the indoor venues have more than one bay.
Which month is golf cheapest?
Winter, because there is no green fee. From November to March golf costs only what you book in bay hours and lessons, and the licence runs on anyway. The most expensive month is a summer month with a weekly round.
