Golf bag and trolley: stand or cart bag, manual or electric, and what they cost in Switzerland
If you carry, you take a stand bag, if you push, a cart bag. With weight, range and the prices of 188 offers from a Swiss retailer, from CHF 59.90 to 5,999.90.

Anyone buying their own equipment soon faces two questions: stand bag or cart bag, and a trolley by hand or with a motor? The answer depends on how you walk the round. If you carry, you take a stand bag. If you push a trolley, you take a cart bag and then choose between manual and electric. This post puts the types side by side with weight and range and shows what they cost at a Swiss retailer (as of 2 October 2026).
Stand bag, cart bag, tour bag
| Stand bag | Cart bag | Tour bag | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weight | 1.5 to 3 kg | 3 to 6 kg | the heaviest |
| Carrying | backpack strap, comfortable over 18 holes | simple strap, not for long rounds | not meant for carrying |
| Stand legs | yes | no | no |
| Pockets | fewer than the cart bag | more pockets and more storage | the most extensive fit-out |
| Special | often waterproof pockets | partly cooler pockets, welded seams and waterproof material | increasingly seen on private courses |
| Fits on | your back | the trolley | the trolley, the professional version |
The details come from the buying guide of Golf Post. As the criterion the guide names the arrangement of pockets and your own use. A stand bag can be carried over the whole round, a cart bag weighs twice as much according to the guide and in return sits well on the trolley thanks to its shape and size.
Manual trolley or electric trolley
| Manual trolley | Electric trolley | |
|---|---|---|
| Weight | 5 to 9 kg | 12 to 18 kg including battery |
| Range | unlimited, depends on you | with a 12 Ah lithium battery 27 to 36 holes per charge, depending on terrain and pace |
| Folded size | about 85 × 40 × 35 cm | about 90 × 45 × 40 cm |
| Suits | athletic occasional players, at most once or twice a month | anyone playing more than once a week, and anyone with knee or back problems, regardless of frequency |
The details and the recommendation by playing frequency come from the trolley comparison of Golf Mag. The magazine names for the German market EUR 90 to 350 for the manual trolley and EUR 500 to 1,400 for the electric trolley. These are euro prices from a market overview. What retailers in Switzerland charge is shown in the next section.
What it costs in Switzerland
I analysed the categories of Golfers Paradise, a Swiss retailer, on 2 October 2026 (Golfers Paradise, bags and trolleys). Counted are offers, colour variants individually, with the lowest price per offer:
| Category | Offers | Cheapest | Middle | Dearest |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stand bags | 51 | CHF 119.90 | CHF 299.00 | CHF 569.00 |
| Cart bags, adults | 94 | CHF 149.00 | CHF 389.45 | CHF 849.00 |
| Manual trolleys | 13 | CHF 59.90 | CHF 259.00 | CHF 1,099.90 |
| Electric trolleys | 30 | CHF 1,199.00 | CHF 3,109.45 | CHF 5,999.90 |
The cart bags include the large tour bags as well, which is why they go up to CHF 849. Among the electric trolleys only six of the 30 offers cost less than CHF 2,000. The cheapest manual trolley offer is a Go 2 Wheel by Black Diamond for CHF 59.90, the dearest a Carbon Shine 3-wheel by JuCad for CHF 1,099.90. The difference between a manual and an electric trolley in the middle of the offers is about CHF 2,850.
| Category | The most frequent brands in the offer, number of offers |
|---|---|
| Stand bags | Big Max (9), Vessel (6), Elrey (6), Callaway (6), JuCad (5), Minimal Golf (5) |
| Cart bags | JuCad (25), Big Max (12), Ping (8), Bennington (8), TaylorMade (8), Vessel (5) |
| Manual trolleys | Big Max (5), Elrey (4), Black Diamond (2) |
| Electric trolleys | JuCad (11), TiCad (6), Flat Cat (5), Albatross (2), MGI Electric Carts (2), JuStar (2) |
Three ways, three sums
With the middle prices of the table, three setups for the round result. The stand bag alone, carried, costs CHF 299.00 in the middle. The cart bag with a manual trolley costs CHF 389.45 plus CHF 259.00, together CHF 648.45. The cart bag with an electric trolley costs CHF 389.45 plus CHF 3,109.45, together CHF 3,498.90. These are the middles of one retailer's offers, not a recommendation for a model. Anyone starting cheaply takes a stand bag or the combination of the cheapest cart bag and the cheapest manual trolley, CHF 149.00 plus CHF 59.90, together CHF 208.90.
Where most offers lie
| Category | Lowest band | Middle band | Top band |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stand bags | 15 under CHF 200 | 25 from CHF 200 to 399.90 | 11 from CHF 400 |
| Cart bags, adults | 3 under CHF 250 | 80 from CHF 250 to 499.90 | 11 from CHF 500 |
| Manual trolleys | 2 under CHF 150 | 10 from CHF 150 to 499.90 | 1 from CHF 500 |
| Electric trolleys | 6 under CHF 2,000 | 19 from CHF 2,000 to 3,999.90 | 5 from CHF 4,000 |
Of the adult cart bags, 80 of the 94 offers lie between CHF 250 and 500, and 40 of the 51 stand bags cost less than CHF 400. Among the electric trolleys 19 of 30 offers lie in the band from CHF 2,000 to 4,000. Anyone looking for a stand bag or a cart bag therefore finds the majority of offers in a middle price range, and anyone wanting an electric trolley should expect a four-figure amount.
For children the same retailer carries a junior cart bag by JuCad for CHF 109.90, a Prodi G stand bag by Ping for CHF 199.90 and a Junior Max 3W manual trolley by Big Max for CHF 159.90. The question of from what age children start golf and what the training costs is answered by Golf for children in Switzerland.
How many clubs may go in the bag
At most 14. Rule 4.1b says: a player must not start a round with more than 14 clubs and must not have more than 14 clubs during the round. In stroke play the penalty is two strokes for each hole at which the breach existed, at most four penalty strokes per round. In match play one hole is deducted for each such hole, at most two per round (R&A, Rule 4). A beginner set usually has fewer clubs, so the bag may stay partly empty. Which clubs a first set needs is in Golf beginner set: which clubs.
Before you buy a bag
A bag is the last purchase, not the first. Before it come the clubs, and you buy those only when you know which ones suit you. Many simulator venues provide rental clubs so that you can start without your own equipment, and what you bring to the first hour is in The first simulator hour. Anyone wanting to buy second-hand finds advice in Second-hand clubs and lake balls. And anyone wanting to know whether a fitting changes the clubs reads Golf fitting in Switzerland.
For the bag itself one question is enough: do you carry or push? Anyone who carries a hilly course with a stand bag carries 1.5 to 3 kilograms of bag plus the clubs. Anyone taking a trolley chooses the cart bag. Everything else, the pockets, the colour, the rain hood, is taste. What the round costs otherwise is worked out in What does golf cost in Switzerland.
Try first, buy later
The easiest way to put off buying equipment is a simulator. You hit with rental clubs, see every shot as a number and know after a few hours what you need. You find the venue near you via the golf simulator near me page or the map, the prices are on golf simulator prices, and for beginners there is golf simulator for beginners.
